Annie McKay came to slowly. Aware in pieces of her surroundings. The pebbled linoleum of the trailer floor dug into her cheek. Her ankle was twisted, wedged against something hard. The hot copper smell of blood made her stomach roll and she gagged. “Annie, I’m sorry.” That voice … oh God. It was Hoyt. Her husband. Standing over her.
Just when Annie thought she was safe to move on with her life… HE returns to smash it to pieces
If hope was hard for me, faith was impossible. Growing up Dylan Daniels among the thieves and killers and rabid animals disguised as humans that were my family, faith didn’t stand a chance. But goddammit—I was trying. I clutched hope and faith in my scarred hands. Hands far too used to shoving those things away.
Dylan must overcome his own demons in order to save Annie from hers…
I gave this book 4.4 stars out of 5. I have to say that I actually really liked Dylan and didn’t think that he was as bad as he swore he was. I think that he just didn’t see himself as worthy of Annie, which is funny because she didn’t think she was good enough for him either. I loved his struggle with what he thought was true and what she saw in him, and how at times he wanted so much to be the man she saw and held himself from it. I also liked how Annie continued to grow in this book. Plenty happened where she could have just folded into herself and there were times when she almost did. Luckily the people who are now in her life helped her through her crisis and showed her not only who she could be, but who she had already become. I really liked this series in that the characters were realistic and they evolved as the story progressed. I was sad when the book ended, but I did get the closure that I needed (the end of the first book was a MAJOR cliffhanger and I almost died when I had to wait for the next one!)

Even though it was growing late, the streets were still filled with people. They carried bags and parcels, all preparing for Christmas and celebrations with their families. To Asher it would be just another day. Another argument. Another punch. Another night sitting out in the cold until it was safe to go back inside.
Asher has had a hard life, at 22 he’s finally where he wants to be. He has a place all his own and he feels safe.
Emma has struggled for very different reasons, but now she is happily working at a local shelter for teens. She gets to help kids in trouble and make a difference.
“Asher?” “Yeah?” “Thanks for coming. You were my knight in shining armor today. I’ll never forget what you’ve done for me. Never.” Asher swallowed thickly, emotion threatening to choke him. His heart pounded fiercely as he mustered the strength to say, “Ditto. I don’t forget good deeds either. You were mine.” She smiled widely, her eyes shining brightly. “I was your what?” “My angel, Em. You were my angel.”
When Asher and Emma meet again by coincidence…
Asher must face his past and Emma must fight for their future.
I gave this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I have to say that my favorite character was probably Emma. I loved her tenacity and her willingness to fight for what she wanted. At first I was a bit frustrated with Ash and his insecurities (which was a nice change by the way, the woman was the confident one in the relationship), but as he grew throughout the story and opened up more he was even more likeable. Another thing that I liked was that the story started off good and with a bit of mystery (Ash’s background). Especially the fact that once you found out what was going on, though it did slow down for a bit, it picked right back up as you neared the conclusion. I really enjoy the characters created by M. A. Stacie and hope she chooses to continue weaving this particular world by having more books with these characters, because there are definitely some background characters that I need more on!
