Play (Stage Dive #2) by Kylie Scott

There were a few faces amongst the crowd that I recognized; most belonged to people I’d never dare approach. I took a sip of beer to wet my parched throat. Being the odd one out at a party is a unique sort of torture. Given today’s events, I lacked the courage to start a conversation. With my talent for picking who to trust, I’d probably ask the only axe murderer in the room for his sign.

Anne has had the worst day ever. When she gets home from work her roommate has skipped town, leaving an empty apartment ( most of the furniture was here) and Anne to deal with her half of the rent (2 months behind)

Mal has a secret, and this secret requires him to have a girlfriend…

Which is about when I snapped and started screaming. “You want boundaries? How about getting the hell out of my face! How’s that for a boundary, huh? None of this is any of your damn business, you obnoxious dickhead.” He opened his mouth to reply but I charged on regardless. “You don’t know a damn thing about me. And you think you can get in my face and tear my psyche apart for fun? No. Fuck you, buddy. Fuck you hard.”

Anne needs money and Amal needs a fake girlfriend

What will happen when they decide to pursue a mutually beneficial relationship?

What happens when ‘fake’ isn’t good enough?

I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I really liked how Anne came into her own as the book went on. In the beginning she was a bit of a pushover, but as the story went on she grew stronger and was able to stand up for herself. I also liked the changes Mal went through, he became a bit more serious and he was able to face his fears. I really liked that this book was a better written than the first, the characters were a bit more relatable without losing that element that made you want to read more. This book like the first in the series can be read as a standalone, but it is better when read as part of the series. I look forward to the rest of the series and learning what happens when the rest of the band meets their match.
