Leo (Sign of Love #1) by Mia Sheridan

Leo Cover

The Leo. A passionate lover by nature and a brave fighter by instinct.

When you have been waiting for someone to truly love you for what seems like forever, losing the one person who does hurts all the more… Evie’s a girl who grew up in foster care, her mother was an addict who didn’t care and her father’s not in the picture so when she’s placed in foster care at 10, she’s mastered the art of disappearing. Enter Leo, her loyal lion.

We met in the first foster care home we each were sent to. He’s my best friend in the world, the boy I’ve grown to love intensely, the boy who’s finally made it safe to dream. But he’s been adopted.

When Leo’s to be adopted at 15 he promises Evie he will write and call everyday he can…

“I’m going to kiss you now Evie, and when I do, it’s going to mean that you’re mine. I don’t care how far away from each other we are. You. Are. Mine. I’ll wait for you. And I want you to wait for me. Promise me you won’t let anyone else touch you. Promise me you’ll save yourself for me, and only me.”

Now its 8 years later and there’s still no word from Leo, Evie’s all but given up on him when someone new stalks into her life, literally.

I’ve heard that one of the reasons many serial killers are successful at luring victims is because they look like nice, good-looking, average guys. But I still can’t believe that the Adonis trailing me is someone to worry too much about, safety wise.

Jake has been following Evie around town for a while now and when she confronts him he reveals that he’s a friend of the man she has yet to forget, Leo. Now I could go into a bit more details but this is one of those books where I’m not sure how much is too much so you’ll have to read it for yourself 😉 .

I give this book a 4.7 out of 5 stars, it was engaging and I really fell in love with Evie’s character. The thing I liked best was the fact that the things that she went through definitely changed her as a person (good and bad), but she was able to grow from her experiences. She was able to take her circumstances and though there were times when she could have turned her back on humanity she pushed through. She made loyal friends and cared for those around her even though at times it would have been easier not to.
