The theory was that hell could only be accessed through death. Riley disagreed. The door to Hell, in her opinion, was standing in line at the post office when the air conditioner was broken and the temperature had skipped mildly discomforting and gone straight to downright inhuman
I have to say that the first lines of this book really pulled me in. The author has this way of describing things that really pulls you in… I mean
The worst was the man directly in front of Riley. The stench of him made her eyes water and the hairs in her nostrils scream in terror.
Yeah I almost covered my nose and it’s perfectly safe in my room far, far away from this guy. Riley is 19 and a bit desperate, she is the support for her family and she needs a job. Enter Octavian, a 6 foot something ‘stud muffin’. He drops his wallet and she, instead of keeping it goes to the address to return it. In returning it she meets his family and is even offered a job at the family establishment Final Judgement. This is great and really saves her right? I wouldn’t be so sure…
“Not her.” Octavian’s voice carried through as clear as a bell through the takeout window. “I don’t want it to be her.” “Octavian!” Kyaerin scolded. “She found her way here,” Liam said calmly, but there was an edge of warning. “There was nothing we could do. We have no choice. She’s hired”
Working at Final Judgement turns out to be a lot more than Riley bargained for and could end up with her fighting to save her soul. With creatures that seem to come straight from fairytales and her forbidden attraction to Octavian, Riley’s in for a lot more than she bargained for.
I give this book 3.4 out of five stars. Although I really loved the characters and they were pretty well thought out, I still don’t feel as if I truly know them yet. I hope that since this is a series the characters will become more fully developed as the series continues and I’ll come to love them more. There were also a few times in the story where I got a bit confused as to what was going on, but overall the storyline is very original and I can’t wait to see where the series takes me!
